Tip & Split Bill Calculator
Split the bill fairly: add the tip first, then divide the total. Everyone pays the same share, to the cent.
How it works
Tip = bill × tip% ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Per person = total ÷ people. All money values are rounded to the nearest cent.
Example: $120 bill, 20% tip, 4 people: tip $24.00, total $144.00, $36.00 per person. An $85.50 bill at 15% split 3 ways gives $12.83 tip, $98.33 total, $32.78 each.
Frequently asked questions
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax total?
Custom varies: many people tip on the pre-tax subtotal, many on the total. The difference is small — pick one and be consistent.
What is a standard tip?
In the US, 15–20% is standard for table service, 20%+ for excellent service. Tip jars and counters are optional.
How do you handle odd cents when splitting?
Round each share to cents. If the shares total a cent or two off, one person covers the difference or it goes on the next round.
What if people ordered different amounts?
Then split by what each person ordered instead: each person pays their items plus their share of the tip.
